Spencer, IowaAdele Joan Rathgeber Anderson Homewood was born August 5, 1934, to William and Emma (Post) Rathgeber, at Coleridge, NE. Adele was baptized August 26, 1934, and confirmed her faith on June 13, 1948, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coleridge. Adele attended country school for eight years and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1952.
Adele married Arlen Anderson on December 13, 1953, on her parent's farm near Coleridge. They lived in Dakota City until 1965 and then moved to Spencer, IA, where she lived until 2004. Arlen passed away September 21, 2002.
Adele married Roger Homewood at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer, IA, on November 1, 2003. They moved to Donna, Texas, where they were active members of Donna United Methodist Church.
She worked at St. Luke's Lutheran Home, and for Home Health as a nurse's aide in the 1970's and 80's. She also worked in the Activity Department at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, IA.
Adele enjoyed flowers, embroidering and quilting baby quilts, crocheting, reading, playing cards, photography, attending Red Hat Ladies events, enjoying family and friends, and Countryside Park activities.
Adele passed away at the Mercy Hospital in Oelwein, IA, on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at the age of 78 from Pulmonary Fibrosis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Alfred as an infant, Raymond, Melvin and Emmett, along with her husband, Arlen Anderson.
Adele is survived by her husband, Roger of Oelwein; five children: Linda Griffin of Spencer, IA, and special friend, Roland Sindt of Everly, IA, David Anderson and wife, Connie of Centennial, CO, Diane Anderson of Spencer, IA, Sandy Curry and husband, Todd of Spencer, IA, and Brian Anderson of Omaha, NE; her stepchildren: Karen and husband, John of Oelwein, IA, Joan Rechkemmer of Ashtown, AK, Dick and wife, Deb of Cedar Falls, IA, Nancy Munson of Chicago, IL, Jeff and wife, Jennifer of Aurora, CO; 6 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandson; other relatives and friends.
