Funeral services for Burroughs Conover, 80, of Royal, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2000 at Grace United Methodist Church, Spencer. The Rev. Paul Hansen will officiate

Burial will be at North Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Spencer

Casket Bearers; Kent Conover, Lorne Miller, Shane Quist, Kelly Conover, Lonnie Miller, Jeremiah Quist

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Alcoholics Anonymous Members

Mr. Conover died as a result of a car accident south of Spencer on Tuesday, February 22, 2000

Burroughs Eldon Conover, the son of Claude and Tracy Paulson Conover, was born February 11, 1920 in Holstein and it was there he received his education. Following his graduation from Holstein High School, he attended Iowa State University in Ames

On November 10, 1941, he married Marjorie Miller in Elk Point, South Dakota. Following their marriage, they lived in several rural communities including Burbank, California before moving back to Iowa and eventually settling on a farm near Dickens

He joined the Navy on October 23, 1943 and was in WWII in the Normandy Campaign, Northern France, Germany and the Air Offensive in Europe. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon with four Battle Stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three Clusters and the Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged on October 11, 1945

After serving in the Army, he farmed in the area for many years and was also a cattle buyer. He owned a sale barn in Spencer and operated the North Y Auction.

On May 21, 1991, Marjorie Conover passed away in Spencer

Mr. Conover married Sandra Quist on July 25, 1992 in Spencer and following their marriage, they lived in Royal. While living in Royal, he was a member of the Clay County Cattlemen and a strong supporter of AA and attending meetings in northwest Iowa. He had also been a 4-H leader and was raising cattle up to the time of his death

Mr. Conover was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, five brothers and one sister

He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Royal; one daughter, Marilyn Green of Des Moines; one granddaughter; and one sister, Marie Johnson and her husband Virgil of Spencer
