Mrs. Geo. H. Atkinson
Creston Daily Advertiser--Gazette, June 25.--The shadow of death darkened the door of another Creston home and the veil of sorrow was again cast over the city Friday evening with the passing away of Mrs. Lucile B. Atkinson, wife of druggist Geo. H. Atkinson, and one of Creston's most beloved women. This good woman was not taken away unexpectedly, the warning signal extending over almost two years; but nevertheless, it has brought inexpressible sadness into one of the most cheerful and happy homes in Creston and among a legion of friends.
As is generally known her affliction was tuberculosis from which she had been suffering for two years and she, as well as her husband and friends, was conscious of her condition, knowing for many months that her time to enjoy the blessings that her time to enjoy the blessings of this life was very limited. But in of this life was very limited. But in the face of all this her sweet disposition never forsook her for one moment, but her expressions of kindness and good cheer made the few dim rays of sunshine that have lighted the home for the past two years seem much brighter. And when last evening at 8:20 o'clock she peacefully closed her eyes in everlasting repose and her spirit took its flight, it was as if she had merely sank into repose for the night.
Gathered at the bedside when the end came were her devoted and faithful husband and the only child, Olga, five years of age, and who has been the sunshine of the home during the mother's sickness, and a few neighbors.
Arrangements have been made for holding the funeral from the home at 503 North Elm Street at 1 o'clock Monday, June 27th, and under the auspices of the Eastern Star of which deceased was a member. The remains will be shipped on No. 4 Monday to Peterson, Iowa, the former home of Mr. Atkinson where burial will be made Tuesday. Rev. Ferguson will be the officiating clergyman at the home. Mrs. Atkinson being almost a regular attendant of St. Paul's Episcopal church.
Lucile B. Neal, was born in Morgan county, Kentucky, October 15, 1876, and died in Creston, Iowa, June 24, 1910, at the age of 33 years, 7 months and 9 days. When a young lady she removed to St. Joseph, Missouri, and it was in that city that she was united in marriage to Mr. Atkinson. Besides her husband and one child, she leaves a father, residing in Oklahoma, and three sisters and one brother.
The remains were brought to Peterson Tuesday and the funeral services were held in the Congregational church, Rev. Oxley conducting the services, assisted by Rev. Bush of the M.E. church. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.
