Eliza Jane French was born at Onslow, Jones County, Iowa, May 8, 1864 and passed away at her home in Mt. Vernon, S. Dak., March 19, 1925. She had attained the age of 60 years, 10 months and 11 days.

She was married in 1884 at Peterson, Iowa, to Mr. C.D. Phelps. To them two children were born, Mrs. Edna Santage of Peterson, Iowa, and Earnest R. Phelps of Royal, Iowa. She was later married to Robert S. Lybarger at LeMars, Iowa, on January 23, 1907. They made their home at Sioux City, Iowa, until March 1, 1908 when they moved to Mt. Vernon, S. Dak. The rest of her life was lived in that state except two and one half years which were spent in Missouri.

Mrs. Lybarger was a good mother, a devoted wife, and an esteemed friend. While she never affiliated with any particular church, she loved her Bible and its thumb worn and tear stained pages attest her faith in its teachings.

She leaves her husband, two children, thirteen grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Rosy Stanton of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Mrs. Will Orr of Onslow, Iowa, and two brothers, Simon French of Summit, S. Dak., and Will French of Mountain Lake, Minn., besides other relatives and her many friends to mourn her departure.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, March 22 at 2:00 at the home of Arthur Santage near Peterson. Burial took place in the Oakland cemetery at Peterson.
