Dorothy Leola Carpenter, the daughter of Wester and Esther Fink Gruchow, was born December 8, 1915, at Spencer, Iowa.

Dorothy was born again as a child of God throught the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on June 10, 1916, at the First English Lutheran Church of Spencer, where she was also confirmed that faith on April 29, 1934.

Dorothy was united in the bonds of marriage to Leland Carpenter on December 8, 1935 at Spencer. They farmed near Milford. then moved to Spencer, where they made their home. Their marriage was blessed with four children.

As a life long member of First English Lutheran. Dorothy was active for many years as a Sunday School teacher. There she was also a member of the Naomi Guild.

For the last four years, Dorothy had been a resident of the Longhouse Residence in Spencer.

Our Heavenly Father called Dorothy to her eternal home on September 2, 1988 at the age of 72.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Carroll and Lyle.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Leland; three sons and their wives, Gary and Rose Mary of New Orlean, Louisana, Larry and Karen of Orlando, Florida and Michael and Cindy of Spencer; one daughter and her husband, Linda and Roger Nelson of Worthington, Minnesota; fourteen grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Fitzloff of Detroit, Michigan, June Trabert of Rochester, Minnesota and Dolores Hatfield of Spencer; and one brother, Ronald Gruchow of Longmont, Colorado; as well as other relatives and friends.

Casket Bearers; Steve Hurst, David Hatfield, Bill Carpenter, Jim Carpenter, Jerry Carpenter, Tim Vodraska.

Honorary Casket Bearers; Floyd Breidinger, Carl Abel, Darrell Scharnberg, Levi Reidinger.

She is buried at North Lawn Cemetery, Spencer.
