CLIFFORD FRENCH FUNERAL HELD HERE SUNDAY
Well-Known Peterson Boy, Killed in Auto Accident, Is Buried Here Sunday
Clifford D. French, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin French of Peterson, and son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. G.F. Tumler, was buried in the Peterson cemetery, Sunday afternoon. Clifford died Thursday morning following severe injuries sustained in an automobile accident two miles east of Aurelia, Tuesday night. Following the accident he was taken to the Aurelia hospital where it was found his back was broken and his spinal cord severed. He was moved in an ambulance to a Sioux City hospital, Thursday morning, and although he stood the trip well, he died about an hour after reaching the Sioux City hospital.
Clifford was buried at Peterson and funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon. A service at the house was followed by another service at the Congregational church. Rev. C.A. Hyde preached a very comforting funeral sermon. Music was furnished by a male quartette composed of Ivan Reed, A.L. Blackmer, Dr. Gaston and Dr. Loucke. Pall bearers were Melvin Sitz, Thos. F. Saunders, Ralph Holthuen and Chas. Gunnarson, of Peterson and Alvin Schultz and Robt. Grover of Storm Lake.
The floral offerings were very numerous and one of the largest crowds to ever attend a funeral service here was present.
Clifford Dubois French, the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin French, was born February 5, 1904 at their present home near Peterson.
He died October 4, 1934, aged 30 years and 8 months. He graduated from the Peterson high school with the class of 1922. The following year he attended Northwestern University at Evanston, Illinois. Later he attended the 4-Cs college at Des Moines.
On January 5, 1925 he was united in marriage to Anna Marie Tumler at Iowa City. They left immediately for St. Louis where he attended a watch-making school. After finishing the course he took his first position at Spencer with F.A. Howe. He continued his profession at Omaha, Junction City, Kansas and at Davenport. Nine years ago he chose to change his occupation to one less confining. Since that time he has been in the automobile business in Storm Lake and Sheldon. Clifford had a special gift and ability for making friends and wherever he went he made a great number of friends among the young and older folks as well.
He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, two sons Jimmie 3 years, 9 months, Jerry 14 months and his father and mother, many relatives and a host of friends.
