November 23, 1924

Lucy Z. Jones, a former resident of Spencer, passed away at the Waverly hospital on Sunday morning, November 23 following an operation of the the week before.

Mrs. Jones was the formerly Lucy Z. Fairbanks. She was born on the Fathers Homestead in Clay Township, Clay County on June 1, 1877. Then a small child, she came with her parents to live in Spencer and later they moved to Peterson where she grew to womanhood.

She was united in marriage February 11, 1903 to Franklin H. Jones of Spencer. Mr. and Mrs. Jones, since their marriage have resided at Colo and at the present time have been living for a number years at Aredale, Iowa.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Friends Church of Spencer during the years, when she made this her home. She tried to live the Christian life in the simplest and most sincere fashion that she knew. Those who knew her best say that she succeeded will. She was also a member of Order of the Mystic Workers and found pleasure in the associations found therein.

She leaves to mourn their loss, her husband, Frank H. Jones, three sons, Russell, Cecil and Randall all of whom are still at home. One child a daughter, Ada Bell died in infancy.

She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Minnie B. Smith of Spencer and Florence L. Fitzgerald of Peterson and one brother, Hiram B. Fairbanks of Wichita, Kansas and a number of other relatives and a wide circle of friends.

Mrs. Jones was ill for only a few days and death, being unexpected is therefore the more disappointing and distressing. Her loved ones will miss her sorely but they will have the comfort of Him into whose keeping she has gone.

She had arrived at the age of forty seven years, five months and twenty three days. Having just about reached the noonday of life, weary with the way, she lay down to rest. Thus she sleeps the sleep that knows no awakening untill the resurrection day. Her memory will be held sacred by those whose lives she touched, most intimately as she passed along.

The body was shipped to Spencer for burial in Riverside Cemetery. Funeral services were held from the Almy Smith home on East Third Street at two o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Thos. B. Collins of the Grace Methodist Church in charge.
