Fred Newton Root was born at Ellwood, October 4, 1879 to Oliver and Margaret (Smith) Root

He died January 3, 1958.

His marriage to Grace Hess took place, February 21, 1906 at Armstrong

She survives as do their three children, Kenneth Root, Terril; Raymond Root, Whittier, California and Donald Root, Fenton , Mrs. Severyn Brujn, Ontario, California, two nieces and 8 grandchildren

He had been a Spencer resident for eight years, coming to Spencer from Ruthven

He had been a barber for 16 years and for 32 years was engaged in farming at Ruthven, retiring in 1949.

His education was received in Ruthven graduating from Ruthven High School. He also took a business course at Highland Park College at Des Moines

Rev. Floyd Hinshaw officiated at the funeral services at the Warner Chapel, January 6

Casket Bearers; H.J. Rusk, Raymond Flack, Harold Giep, Glenn Kinton, J.B. Dannewitz and John Pullen
