HARRY J. SMITH IS FOUND DEAD
HEART ATTACK IS CAUSE OF UNTIMELY PASSING OF FARMER
Harry J. Smith, 45 years old, a resident of Dickinson county, formerly of Spencer,dropped dead last Thursday morning, January 30, about 15 rods from his farm home, eight miles north and eight miles west of Spencer. He was found dead, lying face down along side of the road by his neighbor, John Smith.
An inquest was held and the coroner from Spirit Lake pronounced heart trouble the cause of his death.
Mr. Smith had been at the home of his neighbor, Clinton Paige, that morning and it was about 11:30 o'clock that he left there to return to his home. His death occurred between 11:30 o'clock and noon. He had been in apparently good health and was in Spencer the day previous to his death and visited with his sister, Miss Maude Smith of South Main street.
Services Held Sunday
Short prayer services were held Sunday at 11:30 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 o'clock from the chapel of the Cobb Funeral Home in Spencer. Rev. Wood of the Evangelical church near his home, conducted the services. Dr. Herbert Clegg, pastor of the Methodist church in Spencer, assisted Rev. Wood. Burial was made in the Riverside cemetery.
Harry J. Smith, the son of Mrs. J.S. Smith of Milford and Spencer, was born in Spencer, January 20, 1885, where he grew to manhood. He attended the Spencer public schools and later learned the carpenter trade, which profession he followed until about seven years ago. Mr. Smith was associated with his father in the carpenter business for several years, but later went to Minneapolis. He worked in Jamestown, N.D., and Marshall, Minnesota, for a period of 10 years.
It was at Marshall that he met Miss Mae Aurandt and they were united in marriage January 5, 1914. To this union four children were born, Donald, age 13, Osborne, age 12, Norinne, age 10, and Gordon, age 8.
On Farm 7 Years
For the past seven years, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and children have made their home on the farm northwest of Spencer, at which place they were living at the time of his death. They were planning to move to Spencer March 1 to make their home with his sister, Miss Maude Smith.
Besides his wife and four children he is survived by his mother, Mrs. J.S. Smith and three sisters, Miss Maude Smith of Spencer, Mrs. L.A. Hamilton and Mrs. C.B. Reese of San Diego, California, besides a number of other relatives and friends. His father preceded him in death in September 1929.
Miss Cora Aurandt of Marshall, Minnesota, sister of Mrs. Harry J. Smith, was an out of town relative at the funeral.
