Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock at the Jones funeral home for Joe Geil, painter and paperhanger of Royal, who passed away last Thursday at the Spencer hospital following an illness with kidney trouble. He had been in failing health for a number of years. He was about 75 years of age.

Rev. B.J. Trickey, pastor of the Congregational church, Spencer, officiated, and burial was in Riverside cemetery. During the service Miss Alice Berg and Miss Ethna Beck sang as duets, "It Is Well With My Soul" and "The Eastern Gate.:

Little is known of Mr. Geil's life, his nearest relatives being a sister in San Francisco and cousins in Ohio. They were unable due to the great distance to attend the last rites. He had been a resident of Royal for about 30 years, or since the beginning of the town. Usually, however, he spent the winters with relatives in Ohio. He was known in the community as a faithful and honest worker, and owned two pieces of property in the city.

Those who knew him best witness to his kindness to those in need and his willingness to share with others.
