Frank Kramer, Former Everly Farmer, Ends Life

Frank G. Kramer, 42, former Spencer resident and farmer near Everly, ended his own life Friday morning, October 30, on his farm near Lodgepole, South Dakota, by firing a shotgun charge into his head. Kramer left two notes blaming domestic difficulties for his act.

"Goodbye and forget the past. I cannot live without the children so am ending it all," read one note left to his family. Another to his brother requested burial at Spencer beside his father and mother.

Kramer's body was brought to Spencer Saturday and funeral services were held from the Cobb-Phelps chapel Tuesday afternoon with interment at Riverside cemetery as requested. Rev. W.P. Kramer of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a brother, conducted the rites.

Survived by Wife

Kramer is survived by his wife and three children and by two brothers and two sisters, Walter B. Kramer of Minneapolis, Rev. W.P. Kramer of Fond du Lac, Mrs. C.D. Barrett of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Roy Johnson of Minneapolis.

He was born in Spencer February 5, 1889 and lived here for over twenty years, farming near Everly. He was well known and is remembered here by many.

No hint of despondency was given Kramer's family before the suicide. He arose as usual Friday morning and went about his work. About ten o'clock a neighbor called to borrow some oil for a tractor and could not find Kramer. Going into the barn, the neighbor found the body on the floor with a 10-gauge shotgun clamped between the legs, the muzzle under the chin where a gaping wound was in evidence. It was presumed that Kramer had used a small stick, lying nearby, to press the trigger of the gun after he had placed it to his head. No inquest was held.
