Helen Louise Oglesby, the daughter of William and Dorothy (Hesebeck) Hattendorf, was born April 8, 1936 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Harris, Iowa, where she received her education graduating from Harris High School.

Helen married Leon Carl Oglesby on April 28, 1957 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Following her marriage, they moved to Mankato, MN and later to Spencer, Iowa in 1974. In Spencer, Helen worked for 22 years as a bindery operator for Heartland Press, until her retirement in 1999.

She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Helen enjoyed many cruise vacations with her husband and also enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She loved to sew and helped make quilts for World Relief through her church. She also volunteered at St. Luke's Nursing Home.

She passed away unexpectedly at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the age of 77.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon in December of 2007; one sister, Mavis; two great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Donna Hattendorf.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Tim Oglesby of Spencer, IA, Sharon Fredrick of Spencer, Deb Green and her husband, Shannon of Spencer and Sandy Wernimont and her husband, Myron of Spencer; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; two brothers: Don Hattendorf of Sibley, IA and Dale Hattendorf and his wife, Sharon of Castlewood, SD; other relatives and many friends.
