FIVE ADDED TO THE HONOR ROLL

FIVE GOLD STARS ADDED TO CLAY COUNTY SERVICE FLAG IN PAST TWO WEEKS

PNEUMONIA CLAIMS THEM ALL

Epidemic of Spanish Influenza Takes Big Death Toll From Among Clay County Soldiers

Five Clay county young men, soldiers in the service of their county, have paid the supreme sacrifice--their lives--during the past two weeks. All died from pneumonia. They are Privates John Patrick Walsh, of Freeman township; Archie B. Carpenter of Spencer; Fred William Hargrave of Dickens; Frank Martin Schoning of Spencer; and William Carl Mett of Spencer. While none of them were permitted to live to see overseas service, each of them answered the call of the service. They did their best. They gave their all in the cause of humanity and democracy.
