Dorothy Ayres, 88, died Saturday, February 15, 1997 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.

Funeral services will be today at 1:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wesley S.K. Daniel and the Rev. Tim Walker officiating.

Casket Bearers: Ken Johannsen, Brian Campbell, Glen Chenhall, Gary Johannsen, Mark Campbell and Bernie Campbell.

Burial will be at North Lawn Memorial Park, Spencer

Dorothy Irene Ayres, the daughter of Jess and Addie (Burrill) McCleary, was born June 3, 1908 in Spencer. Her childhood years were spent in the Spencer Community where she received her early education and graduated from Spencer High School. She taught in the Township Schools in Clay County.

She married Gaylen Ayres on February 3, 1934 in Spencer. Following their marriage, they continued to live in Spencer, where she helped her husband with his auto parts distribution business. They retired in 1967.

She was a longtime active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer where she was active church circle and Bible study groups

Mrs. Ayres was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother.

She is survived by three daughters, Delores Gramley and her husband, Harold of Vancouver, Washington, Patricia Huddleston and her husband, Robert of Wenatchee, Washington and Shirley Paulsen and her husband, Pete of Spencer; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one brother, Lester McCleary and his wife, Everlyn of Estherville.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements.
