Services for Charles A. Axtell, 90, of Sioux Rapids and formerly of Storm Lake, were held July 5, at 9:30 a.m. at the Sliefert Memorial Chapel in Sioux Rapids. The Rev. Vernon Huffey of Storm Lake officiated.
Burial was in Northlawn Cemetery at Spencer.
Mr. Axtell died July 2 at the Sioux Care Center.
Bearers: Larry Barglof, Paul Clapp, Troy Clapp, Bruce Rusk, John Rusk and Lawrence Rusk.
Mr. Axtell was born August 17, 1887 in St. Louis, Missouri. He moved to Storm Lake in the early 1930's, where he was employed as manager of the Bargain Basement. He later operated various retail establishments in Storm Lake and surrounding communities. His retirement years were spent in Storm Lake and Bradenton, Florida.
He married Beatrice Mort on September 29, 1959.
He had been a resident of the Sioux Care Center for the past few months.
Survivors include his widow, Beatrice of Evart, Michigan; two step children, Vernon Mort and Mona Lou Dodge; one niece, Mrs. Lawrence Rusk of Linn Grove; one nephew, Troy Clapp of Linn Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and his first wife, Hazel Clapp Axtell.
Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids was in charge of arrangements.
