Alma Elizabeth Arndt, 80, passed away at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames on October 26, 2005

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, November 1, 2005 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. The Rev. Roger Linnan will officiate the services.

Burial will follow in North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer.

Alma, the daughter of John Henry and Catherine (Graf) Halbur, was born on December 31, 1924 in Iona, Minnesota. She received her early education and graduated from Iona High School.

On October 8, 1946, Alma married Roy Shatto in Jackson, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm north of Spencer. Alma worked on the McDonald's farm in Milford, Hammer's Cafe in Spencer, then at the family farm with her husband, Roy. She did some babysitting and sold Tupperware and Watkins. She also worked for Wells Fargo and Wonder Bread.

On March 8, 1980, Alma married LaVern Arndt in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following their marriage they continued to live in Spencer.

Alma was a a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Eagle's Auxiliary

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and infant daughter, Sharon Kay; two step children; Connie Holmes and Larry Shatto; one grandchild, Amanda Lynn Sachs Shatto and one step grandchild, Brian Shatto.

Alma is survived by her two sons; Dennis Shatto and his wife, Deborah of Schuyler, Nebraska, and Marvin Shatto and his wife, Linda of Marshalltown; one daughter, Cheryl Parrish and her husband, Denny of Gilbert; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two step sons; Jim Shatto and his wife, Cheri of Fostoria and Gary Shatto and his wife, Rhonda of Mira Loma, California; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; one sister, Marian Knoll and her husband, LeRoy of Biscay, Minnesota and one brother, Clarence Halbur and his wife, Josephine of Milford.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements.
