Amos Joseph Bohnenkamp, the son of Frank and Julia (Ricke) Bohnenkamp, was born February 10, 1921, in Carroll, IA. His childhood years were spent in Breda, IA where he attended school and graduated from St. Bernard High School in 1939. After high school, he attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE where he received a Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree. Amos served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

On October 6, 1945, Amos was united in marriage to Martha (Bernie) Bernadette Rauch. Following their marriage they moved to Spencer. Amos worked for Bjornstad Drug Store from 1945-1973. He then worked as a State of Iowa Pharmacy Inspector from 1972-1974, and then worked for White Drug for the next thirteen years until his retirement.

Amos was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer and the Knights of Columbus. He had a strong faith in God and enjoyed playing golf. More than anything, Amos loved being around his family and friends.

On September 11, 2010, Amos passed away at Careage Hills Nursing Home in Cherokee, IA, at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernie on December 2, 1995; brothers: Aaron, Edwin, and Myron Bohnenkamp; and one sister Lucy Onken.

He is survived by two sons: Tom (Julie) Bohnenkamp of Aurelia, IA and Jim (Carol) Bohnenkamp of West Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren: Tony Bohnenkamp of Des Moines, IA, Kristin (Travis) Busby of Grimes, IA, Matt (Andrea) Bohnenkamp of Bondurant, IA, Tim (Jen) Bohnenkamp of West Des Moines, IA, and Joel Bohnenkamp of Des Moines, IA; two step-grandchildren, Eric (Erin) Sonksen of Johnston, IA, and Emily Sonksen of Cedar Falls, IA; six great-grandchildren: Luke, Kate, Charlie, Lamaya, Nolan, and Braden; as well as other relatives and friends.
