A FATAL ACCIDENT
Joseph Rubes Dead
This community was shocked to hear of the sudden death of Joseph Rubes last Sunday afternoon. He in the company with some neighbor boys congregated at his home in Summit township, when some one proposed a game of ball. When Joseph came to bat he was hit in the region of the heart by the ball. According to rules the umpire told him to take his base, which he started to do, but only got about half way when he fell. He raised up on his side but was unable to get up. Medical assistance was immediately called but he died shortly after the accident occurred. As the place where the ball struck him was not even bruised it is thought he had a weak heart and that he really died of heart failure.
Joseph Matthew Rubes was born February 2, 1890, in Kimball, South Dakota. He was a boy of sterling qualities and one who reckoned his friends by his acquaintances. Death came to him while in the pride of his strength and in the morning of young manhood, when life was very sweet to him. The future rose before him rich in promise of enjoyments of pleasures and of success in the field of ambtion and endeavor. It is doubly sad wehn death comes in life's green spring.
The funeral was held this morning at 10:30 conducted by Father B.A. Hunt and interment made in Riverside cemetery.
