Stricken By Death

Ernest E. Walters died at the home of his mother, Mrs. J.B. Walters on Grove street at 4:15 o'clock Wednesday, October 11, 1916 following a nine weeks illness of typhoid pneumonia from which complications developed that caused his death. Though his sufferings were intense yet at the end he passed peacefully away as though going to sleep. The members of his family and his fiance, Miss Allene Nelson of Ft. Dodge, were with him during his last hours.

The funeral services were held Friday afternoon. At 2:00 o'clock prayer services for the family were held and the sorrowful procession wended its way to St. Stephens Episcopal church where the sad services were conducted by his pastor Dr. William D. Morrow.

Hugh Gilleas, Sumner Kunath, Charles Barnard, Harry Simpson, of McGregor, John Cory and Frank West, friends of the deceased acted as pall bearers.

The floral offerings were most beautiful and profuse and were in themselves a touching and tender tribute of esteem and sympathy.

Ernest Emery Walters was born on the old homestead five and one-half miles east of Spencer on June 23, 1889, being the youngest of a family of eight children. When six years of age he moved with his parents to this city, where he received his education in the public school.

About three years ago he went to Eagle Grove, where for about six months he worked for his brother-in-law, R.E. Roper. He then went to Ft. Dodge where for some time he worked for his brother, H.M. Walters. During the past two years he has been employed as manager of the Koll Billiard Parlors of that city.

The circumstances surrounding his untimely death are particularly sad because of his youth and bright outlook for the future. He was to have been married within a short time to Miss Allene Nelson of Ft. Dodge. To the people of Spencer the bright active demeanor and kindly disposition of the deceased are so well known that words are inadequate. He was an active member of the Episcopal church and his friends were legion.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. J.B. Walters, brothers, Know, Guy, Charles, Frank and Harry; sisters Anna at home, and Mrs. R.E. Roper of Eagle Grove. His father died on March 22, 1914.

Friends and relatives from out of town in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C.O. Parker, Elmer Anderson, Edmund Halligan, Mrs. N.P. Nelson and daughter, Miss Allene, all of Ft. Dodge; Harry Simpson of McGregor, Ralph Smith of Austin, Minnesota; F. Rogers of Spirit Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Green of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Florence Gillman of Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Walters and daughter, Mrs. Roy West of Milford, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Roper of Eagle Grove.
