Harold E Nelson, 98, Spencer, died Thursday, April 8, 1999 at Longhouse Residence, Spencer

Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 13 at Riverside Cemetery, Spencer. The Rev. Kim Crummer officiated

Harold E Nelson, the son of Otto and Marie Nelson, was born January 21, 1901 in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. He spent his childhood and completed his high school education there, graduating from Dell Rapids High School

On July 6, 1928, Harold married Loramae Fisher in Ramona, South Dakota. Following their marriage, he continued summer sessions at the University of Chicago. He graduated from the University of Sioux Falls and was superintendent of schools at several schools in South Dakota. He later moved to Spencer, starting the John Deere business before becoming president of Spencer Savings and Loan Bank for 30 years. He retired in 1974. He also ran a cattle feeding business for several years

Harold has made Spencer his home since 1940 and while living in Spencer he was a member of the United Methodist Church, Abu Bekr Shrine, the Moose Lodge, Golden K's and a 50 year member of the Masons He also was a member of the Spencer City Council and an avid golfer

He was preceded in death by his parents and 15 brothers and sisters

Harold is survived by his wife; a son, Dr. Denver Nelson and his wife, Judy of Eureka, California, and a granddaughter, Kristina Nelson, who will graduate from the University of California Veterinary Medicine School in June

The Warner Funeral Home of Peterson was in charge of arrangements
