Death of W.F. Gallaber

W.F. Gallaber was born in Clearfield county, Pennsylvania, February 22, 1822. Died Feb. 15, 1912 and was within one week of being 80 years old. In 1842 he moved with his parents to Ogle county, Illinois, where he grew to manhood. He was the eldest of a family of eleven children, seven boys and four girls, four of whom, John A., James M., Richard T., and Hugh C., answered the call of their country in the struggle between the states.

In 1855 Mr. Gallaber married Miss Mary D. Reckard and to this union six children were born. In their early married life they lived on a farm near Monroe, Illinois, where for six successive years he served as justice of the peace. In 1885 he came to Northwestern Iowa. Here in the vicinity of Spencer he purchased 320 acres of prairie land and here he passed the remainder of his life. His wife preceded him five years ago to the great beyond. The funeral services were conducted at the home of Grant Gallaber by Rev. J.O. Thrush Monday afternoon and the remains were placed in Riverside cemetery.
