July 1985Otis William VanSickle of Spencer died Monday, July, 1985 in his home. He was 79.
Mr. VanSickle, the son of William and Dora (Smith) VanSickle was born February 15, 1904 in Kewanee, Illinois. His family moved to the Greenville area in 1909.
Following his graduation from Greenville High School, he attended Fort Dodge School of Business where he received a four year degree.
He moved to Dan Angelo, Texas, where he managed Piggley Wiggley Grocery Stores for eight years. He then moved to Chicago where he worked for a time before moving to the Spencer area.
VanSickle married Helen Quail on March 18, 1932 in Jackson, Minnesota. During their marriage, they lived in both the Spencer and Spirit Lake area
He entered the military in 1942 and served in the Army. Upon his discharge, he returned to Spencer, where he worked as a carpenter for Spencer Construction. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years.
Survivors include his son, Richard of Shenandoah, three sisters, Doris Anderson of Pocahontas Point, Florence Meyers of Weatherford, Texas and Vennetta Fiedler of rural Spencer and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. The Rev. Brandt Freeburg will officiate.
Casket Bearers: Glenn Jacobsen, Glen Mason, LeRoy Rees, Ray Barglof, Walt Schroeder and Charles Foote
Burial will be in the Northlawn Cemetery, Spencer.
