Last Friday morning the community was shocked to hear of the sudden death of Patrick Lacey, which occurred at his home in Lincoln township. Although Mr. Lacey had been in poor health for some time, no immediate danger was anticipated, he being in his usual health and up until midnight the preceding evening with his children who were home visiting. He was taken ill at about six Friday morning and died in about an hour.

Mr. Lacey was a man of strong character, firm as a rock, and his word as reliable as his bond. He was loyal to principle, an enemy to hypocrisy. He left a wife and six children; four boys, Maurice, P.B., E.A. and Tom; and two girls, Mrs. J.P. McGuire and Mrs. J.F. Prew. All reside in Clay county and one, Maurice, living at home.

Patrick Lacey was born in the county, Waterford, Ireland, Feb. 22d, 1838, and died Jan. 8, 1904. Came to this country in company with his parents in 1848 and settled in Shellsburg, Wis., where he grew to manhood. Was married to Grace Blain on Oct. 12, 1862. Went to Colorado in 1863, where he was engaged in mining for four years. Returned to Wisconsin and from there moved to Perry, Iowa, where he resided for twenty years, when he moved to Hastings, Neb. In a year's time he removed from there to Clay county, where with his family he has since resided.

The funeral was held Monday at eleven o'clock from Sacred Heart church, Father Hetherington conducting the services. Interment was made at Riverside cemetery. A brother, Laurence Burns Lacey, and wife, of Storm Lake, a brother-in-law, Jas. Moran, and a nephew, John Moran, of Graettinger, were present at the obsequies.
