Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Cobb Funeral Home in Spencer for Horatio Gates White of Bruno, Minnesota, former resident of Spencer and father of J.D. White of this city. Mr. White suffered a paralytic stroke recently and was ill ten days previous to his death, which occurred at the hospital of Moose Lake, Minnesota, where he had been taken for treatment. He was 81 years of age at the time of his death.
Services were held at Bruno, Minnesota, Sunday, July 26, and the body was brought to Spencer Tuesday, accompanied by a son of the deceased man, J.I. White of Stillwater, Minnesota. Rev. W.F. Hurst, pastor of the local Church of Christ, was in charge of the services. Burial was made in the family lot at Riverside cemetery.
Horatio Gates White was born February 6, 1850, near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. When nine years of age, his parents moved to Springfield, Wisconsin, and later to Waterloo, Iowa. In 1876, he was united in marriage to Maggie Cooley of Blackhawk county, Iowa. A year later he and his wife moved to Spencer and homesteaded two miles west of this city, where they resided until 1893.
During the following year, they moved to various cities in Oklahoma and Missouri, and returned to Iowa and made their home at Oakland. In 1902 they moved to Tabor where they resided for a number of years. Mr. White bought property at Bruno, Minnesota, in 1905, and since then had made that his home, visiting during the winters with his children and returning to Bruno every summer.
He was preceded in death by his wife who died in 1915, and a daughter, Alma, passed away in 1898. He is survived by two sons, J.I. White of Stillwater, Minnesota, J.D. White of Spencer, a daughter, Ruby Estella Waterman of Denver, Colorado, and a sister, Mrs. Cinnia Scott of Boulder, Colorado.
