Oliver Brainard Ross was born at North Winfield, Herkimer county, New York, Dec. 10, 1849.

At the age of six his parents removed to Jones county, Iowa, which was the home of Mr. Ross until he came to Clay county in 1882.

December 10, 1879, he was married to Francis Little who survives him. Settling a few miles southwest of Spencer upon his arrival in Clay county, Mr. Ross engaged in the creamery business until in the spring of 1902 when he came to Spencer.

Mr. Ross had been subject for some years to attacks of appendicitis and when attacked a few weeks ago he decided that the only relief possible lay in an operation.

Accordingly on Monday, March 9, he underwent an operation at his home in Spencer. His condition after the operation seemed very promising until last Wednesday when a serious change occurred and in a short time he passed away.

Mr. Ross leaves besides his widow, two brothers, one living in California and one in Idaho; he leaves also five sisters; Mrs. Olive A. Wood, of LaCrosse, Wis., Mrs. Shelton Hickman, of Alburnett, Iowa, Mrs. S.J. Edmonds, of Manchester, Iowa, Mrs. E.A. Cowan, of Washta, Iowa, and Mrs. M.E. Sherman, of Lake Park, Iowa.

In the death of Mr. Ross this community loses a worthy citizen whose kindness was proverbial. He has left a legacy of good will which will perpetuate his memory for years.

His sudden death leaves a large place vacant and there are many who will miss his genial presence, who will realize as never before his sterling worth.

Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon at the First Congregational church conducted by Rev. W.G. Morrow, chaplain of the Ancient Order of United Workmen, to which the deceased belonged, and by Rev. Ernest E. Day, pastor of the church.

Interment was made in Riverside Cemetery.
