Mrs. C.W. Fish, a resident of the county for over fifty years, passed away at her home, 393 East Seventh street, on Friday, March 7, 1925. Her death was due to neuritis and a general nervous break down. For the last twenty-five years Mrs. Fish has been in poor health and the past fifteen years she has been a continual sufferer, being unable to do anything for four years. For the greater part of the last two years of her life she has been confined to her bed.

When Mr. and Mrs. Fish moved here six years ago, they came to live with Mrs. Fish's mother, Mrs. Mary O. Parsons. The latter was in poor health and Mrs. Fish came here to care for her. Mrs. Parsons is now 89 years old.

Hattie V. Parsons was born in Grant county, Wisconsin, on May 17, 1859. Here she grew up through the earlier years of youth and when a girl at the age of eleven years, her parents moved to Clay county, Iowa, coming with them she has since, with the exception of a few years spent in Fort Dodge and the West resided within the bounds of the county.

In those early days she spent a number of years teaching in the public schools of the county. She was united in marriage on May 17, 1883, to C.W. Fish, and for almost forty years they have shared the joys and sorrows of life together. Their home has been from the first a truly Christian home. Four children came in the course of time to bless and brighten their home, three daughters and a son. They are, Mrs. John Martin of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mrs. Frank Niceswanger of Lake View, Iowa, and Mrs. A.W. Uhl of Bronson, Iowa. The son Paul Fish resides at Climbing Hill, Iowa. All of whom together with her faithful husband, her aged mother, Mrs. Parson, and a brother, Rev. E.M. Parson, and two sisters, Mrs. George Edwards of Milwaukee and Mrs. Gerties Bernham of Deadwood, South Dakota, are left to mourn her loss to remember with gratitude her faithful life.

From her earliest girlhood days Mrs. Fish has been an earnest and faithful christian. To her Christ and the christian life were very real and blessed. Prayer was to her a glorious fellowship with God through the Spirit. She loved her Bible and knew it well. Her christian life was consistent and upright. In the years when her health would permit she was very active in her church membership and found great joy in attendance upon the means of grace. Her council to others was ever wise and good. Her words of advice have helped to guide the footsteps of many along the path that leads to the Better Land.

In her earlier life she became a member of the Baptist church. Later upon her marriage she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and to her death was a faithful member of the same. She was at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 19 days.

Funeral services were held from the Grace Methodist church on Sunday afternoon at two thirty o'clock, conducted by the pastor Rev. T.B. Collins, assisted by Rev. E.N. Carey of Dickens and Rev. F.M. Madsen of Spencer. Dr. M.P. Arrasmith of Sheldon gave the principle address.

There was a large number of people from out of town who attended the funeral services and among them were the following relatives: two daughters and a son, Mrs. A.W. Uhl and husband of Bronson, Iowa, Mrs. Frank Niceswanger and husband of Lake View, and Paul Fish and wife and son, Paul Eugene, of Climbing Hill; a brother, E.M. Parson of Osage; two brothers-in-laws, H.H. Fish and A.M. Fish, and their wives of Emmetsburg; and two nephews, William Genson, and wife, of Marathon. One daughter, Mrs. John Martin, of Fort Dodge was unable to be present as she is just recovering from an operation at the Sioux City hospital.
