Another pioneer resident of Iowa was claimed by death this week when John B. Lamb, resident of Clay county for more than fifty years, passed away at the home of his son, F.S. Lamb, West Pine street, Spencer, Tuesday night, December 10, 1929. At the time of his death he was 84 years, 8 months and 9 days. Death was caused from old age and a complication of diseases.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon of this week at two o'clock at the chapel of the Cobb Funeral home. Rev. Benjamin J. Trickey, pastor of the First Congregational church of Spencer, will officiate at the services, and burial will be made in the Trimello cemetery, four miles west of Royal.

John B. Lamb was born at Morgansville, Morgan county, Ohio, April 1, 1845. When eight years of age, he came to Iowa with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Lamb and family, and located at Jefferson county. The trip to Iowa was made by boat down the Ohio river and up the Mississippi river to Keokuk. From Keokuk they journeyed about sixty miles, before locating on a farm where they remained for twelve years.

He was united in marriage to Miss Frances Elizabeth Ward in the spring of 1873, and in January of the following year, after giving birth to their only son, Frank S. Lamb, she preceded her husband in death.

The life of Mr. Lamb was closely associated with his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. George R. Ward. They lived in Jasper county near where the present town of Colfax is situated, for five years prior to coming to Clay county. Upon coming to Clay county they homesteaded on a farm six miles south of Everly where they remained for thirty-one years. For more than twenty-five years, Mr. Lamb made his home with his sister, following the death of her husband, at 751 North Grove street. Mr. Ward passed away about twelve years ago, and Mrs. Ward died October 1, 1928.

Since his sister's death, Mr. Lamb made his home with his son and family. Although failing in health for the past year, Mr. Lamb continued to take an active interest in the affairs of his family. He was up and around the house until about six weeks prior to his death, when he became bedfast.

Mr. Lamb is survived by his son, four grandchildren, and an only brother, E.W. Lamb of Forest Grove, Oregon.

Upon coming to Clay county, Mr. Lamb united with the Talmadge Congregtional church of near Peterson, retaining his affiliation until the founding of the town and the church of Royal.

Mr. Lamb was respected by many and know as a man of retiring nature and disposition, quiet and unassuming, and a believer in high ideals. He was well educated and kept informed concerning the progress and developments of the town and state.
