William F. Haberman, resident of Royal and vicinity for the past forty-three years, passed away at his home two miles north of Royal Thursday morning, October 16, at 12:15 o'clock. Death came very suddenly and resulted from injuries sustained when he fell against a gate near his home and suffered several broken ribs. Physicians were summoned, but shortly after a hemorrhage he passed away.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Haberman home and at two o'clock at the English Lutheran church in Royal with the Rev. V.J. Kollman in charge. Interment was made in the Lone Tree cemetery in Everly.
William Frederick Haberman was born in Manitowoc county, Wisconsin, November 20, 1862. At the age of twenty-three years, he came to Iowa, and for two years he worked on the old Fisher place near Royal. He then bought a farm two miles north of Royal where he lived for forty-three years. At the time of the purchase, the farm was prairie land, and the improvements on it have all been made by Mr. Haberman.
A true pioneer in the county, Mr. Haberman watched and enjoyed the progress in his community.
He was united in marriage March 19, 1895, to Miss Johanna Asmussen of Lone Tree township. To this union eight children were born, two of whom preceded their father in death. Those living are Frederick William Haberman of Royal, Mrs. Edia Williams of Jackson, Minnesota, Mrs. Wilhemina Kruse of Sutherland, Peter A. Haberman of Royal, Mrs. Johanna Steffen of Linn Grove and Otto Haberman of Royal. He also leaves, in addition to his widow and children, two brothers, three sisters and five grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
