Old Resident Passes Away

Marion Susan Knight was born November 5, 1831, in St. Lawrence county, New York. On March 16, 1859 she was married to M.B. Hitsman. In 1869 they moved from New York state to a farm near Rockford, Ill., where they lived for about twelve years.

In 1881 they moved to Clay county and settled on a farm near Spencer where they lived until 1901 when they moved to their present home in south Spencer where she passed away Sunday, December 27, after an illness of many months.

She was a member of the Baptist church which she joined in 1861, until about six years ago when she became a member of the Methodist church of this city.

She was always a faithful and earnest Christian mother and wife. Eight children were born, four of whom died in infancy. The oldest son, Benjamin F. Hitsman, grew to manhood and died about six years ago.

Three children are left, the oldest daughter, Mrs. Nina Chase, of Ashland, Oregon; Mrs. Della Leverich of Stockton, Mo., and R.J. Hitsman of Spencer. A devoted husband and a brother, Dr. D.E. Knight, and nine grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces will mourn her death.

The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Bond at two p.m., this afternoon at the Methodist church.
