LaVern F. Arndt, 83, of Spencer, died Friday, May 24 at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City.

Funeral services will be held today, May 28 at 1:30 p.m. in the Warner Chapel, Spencer, with the Rev. Brian McNamara officiating.

Casket Bearers: Richard Shirk, LaVern Arndt, Todd Arndt, Roger Shirk, William West and Brad Arndt.

Honorary Casket Bearers: Ted Arndt, Todd Norgaard, Dennis Roth, Jon Bang and Jack Verbeck.

An Eagles Service was held Monday evening at the Warner Chapel.

Interment will be at the Dickens Cemetery.

Mr. Arndt was born April 6, 1908, Sac City to August and Gertrude (Williams) Arndt. It was in Sac City he received his education.

On December 25, 1929, he married Evelyn Flack in Dickens. Following their marriage they lived in the Dickens area and he was employed by the light plant company in Spencer.

While in the Dickens area, Mr. Arndt was a member of the Eagles Club and served as president four times.

Mr. Arndt married Alma Halbur Shatto on March 8, 1980 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following their marriage they lived in the Spencer area.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Evelyn; two sisters; and one step-daughter.

He is survived by his wife Alma; two daughters, LaVonne and her husband Bruce Vaad and Cheryl Newcomb all of Omaha, Nebraska, Robert and Judy of Wichita, Kansas, Gary and Peggy of Dickens; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one step-daughter and her husband, Cheryl and Denny Parish of Gilbert; two step-sons and their wives, Marvin and Linda Shatto of Nevada and Dennis and Deborah Shatto of Schuyler, Nebraska; 1 step-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, LeRoy and Charlotte Arndt of Dickens; and two sisters, Viola Story of Dickens and Bertha Johns of Spencer.
