January 3, 1982Funeral services for Orlo James Allen, 63, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Spencer, were held Wednesday, January 6, at 1:30 p.m. in the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
Interment was in Northlawn Cemetery

Allen, the son of Jesse James and Sarah LaVina Welis Allen, was born April 16, 1918 in Fostoria, where he received his early education. He later attended Spencer High School graducating in 1937.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon) in which he was an Elder.
He married Arlie Gilbert on September 16, 1939, in Spencer.
During World War II, he worked for Northwest Airlines in St. Paul. Following the war, Allen moved to Spencer, where he worked for H & N for many years. He was a member of the Spencer Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Part of the time he was the Assistant Fire Chief. He was deputy sheriff for a time before moving to Spirit Lake in 1967 when he purchased the Hafer Boat Company.
Allen died Sunday, January 3, 1982 at University Hospitals in Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Arlie of Spirit Lake; one son, Steven James of Spirit Lake; four grandsons; two granddaughters; his daughter-in-law Carol; two aunts, Mrs. Cornelia Eachen of Fostoria and Mrs. Orpha Shatto.
