Douglas Lloyd Mills, the son of Guy and Dorothy Rhodes Mills, was born March 2, 1945, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. He received his early education and graduated from the Sioux Rapids High School. Following his schooling, Doug farmed his parent's farm.

On June 12, 1966, Doug married Sherry Seeley in Galva, Iowa. Following their marriage, Doug continued farming for a year until going to work at Mefferd Manufacturing in Laurens, Iowa, which later changed to Positech where he worked for 23 years. He also worked for two years at Tyson Foods in Cherokee, Iowa. In his spare time, Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards with several of his friends. He especially loved spending time with his family.

Doug passed away on November 1, 2008 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 63. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Mills of Linn Grove, Iowa; his four daughters and their families: Tami and John Thomas and their children: Quentine, Tenika, Samantha and Eve of Alta, Iowa, Dawn and Dave Richman and their children: Dylan and Jessica of Champagne, IL, Jeni and Milton Cruz and their children: Nam, Lan Huong, Carlos and Emily of Storm Lake, Iowa and Diana Mills and her children: Emma and Grace of Alta, Iowa; three sisters; other relatives and friends

Interment in North Lawn Memorial Park cemetery
