HALE FUNERAL IS HELD HERE MONDAY

Prominent Worker and Musician of Spencer Dies in Rochester, Minn.

Mrs. J.H. Hale, 60, a prominent worker and musician in the Spencer Clef club and other local organizations, died Friday morning, July 28, at 3:30 o'clock in St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, Minn., following an illness of about ten days.

Four days prior to her death, Mrs. Hale was taken to Rochester for medical examination and treatment. Her death was caused from complication of diseases.

The body was returned to Spencer Sunday and funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock from the Jones funeral home, with Rev. Benj. J. Trickey, pastor of the First Congregational church, officiating.

Special music was furnished by the Spencer Clef club quartet and burial was made in Riverside cemetery, Spencer.

Mary Motheral was born in Avoca, Ia., April 20, 1873, where she grew into young womanhood. She graduated from the Avoca high school and later attended Grinnell college for a year and from Grinnell attended Cornell college at Mount Vernon, for three years and received her degree in music from that college.

For thirty years following her graduation from Cornell, she taught music in Mount Vernon and Sioux Rapids, Ia.

At Council Bluffs, Aug. 16, 1893, Mary Motheral was united in marriage to J.H. Hale and following their marriage they moved to Mt. Vernon where they lived for about five and a half years, and from there moved to Sioux Rapids which place was her home for twenty-six years. About eight years ago Mr. and Mrs. Hale moved to Spencer where she had since resided.

Mrs. Hale was a prominent member of the Spencer Clef club, being chairman of the music committee for the past two years and had been reappointed chairman for this year. She served as pianist for Evening Shade chapter, Order of Eastern Star, last year and was a member of the First Congregational church.

Surviving are her husband, one sister, Miss Sarah M. Motheral of Storm Lake, a brother, Frank Motheral of California, and a niece, Mrs. G.W. Hovey of Santa Monica, Calif.

Mrs. Hovey and Miss Motheral were in attendance at the services Tuesday morning.
