PETERSON MAN LOSES LIFE BY DROWNING

A very sad accident occurred last week near Peterson when Eric Jortland was drowned in the Little Sioux river. Mr. Jortland had been repairing a fence near the river and was seized by an epileptic spell, a disease from which he had suffered for a number of years. He lost his balance and fell into the river. When help arrived it was too late to hope to save his life. The first efforts to secure the body were unsuccessful but later a large steel hook was used from a boat and the body recovered.

Mr. Jortland lived with his mother and was a little more than sixty-four years of age. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services were held from the home on Sunday afternoon, May 30, in charge of Rev. Carlsen of Royal and interment was made in Oakland cemetery at Peterson.
