August Ferdinand Frederick Batcher a pioneer resident of Clay county, died at his home in Lake township, at nine-thirty o'clock on the morning of January 14, 1921, following a long and protracted illness due to infirmities of old age. For the past eight years Mr. Batcher has been confined to his bed the greater part of the time.

Deceased was a native of Germany. He was born at Baungarten on September 24, 1826. When a young man he came to America and in 1871 he came to Clay county homesteading land in Lake township where he has made his home continuously for the past fifty years. His wife preceded him in death in 1913.

Mr. Batcher was the father of seven children, five sons and two daughters namely, George, of Sturgis, South Dakota; Charles, of Spencer, A.W., at home; E.M. of Lauder, Wyoming; William, at home; Anna Fisher, of Spokane, Washington, and Miss Mary at home.

He was a life long member of the Lutheran church having been baptized and confirmed in his early childhood. Mr. Batcher was a good citizen and enjoyed the respect of the community. He was a kind and loving father, loyal to his friends and neighbors.

The funeral services will be held this (Wednesday) afternoon from the Congregational church in Dickens with Rev. George Long in charge. Burial will be made in Riverside cemetery.
