PROMINENT MAN DEAD
J.C. Brown Passes Away
The many friends of J.C. Brown were shocked to hear of his sudden death which occurred at his home on Grove street Monday evening. Although Mr. Brown had been known to be in a serious state of health for some months the end was no less a shock to the family who had hoped that he might again partially regain his health.
James C. Brown was born in Stephenson county, Illinois, in 1848 and died April 28, 1912 at the age of sixty-four years. In 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Brown and with her came to this county, where they have lived for thirty years.
To this union four children were born, Mrs. Earl Bassett, Mrs. Glen Canon, Florence E. and Edna F., all of Spencer. Besides his wife and daughters and a large circle of friends Mr. Brown leaves to mourn his loss eight brothers and sisters, namely: Mrs. Vanette Meliken, Chicago; Mrs. F.W. Mack, Spencer; and Mrs. Martha Walker, Sarah Brown, Mary Brown and brother Clark, Al and Vincent Brown all of Dakota, Illinois.
Until about nine years ago Mr. Brown farmed, both in Lincoln and later in Douglas townships, when he moved to Spencer and bought the D.E. Knight properly on Grove street where he has since resided.
The funeral will be held Thursday at two o'clock at the home, Dr. W.D. Morrow officiating, and interment will be made in Riverside cemetery.
