Anne Elize Peoples Becket, 1848-1919

Mrs. Luke Becket died at her home on east Second street last Thursday following a paralytic stroke which she suffered a few weeks ago. The funeral was held at the residence Sunday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. E. Merle Adams of the Congregational church conducted the service. Interment was made at Riverside cemetery.

Anne Elize Peoples was born in Fayette county, Pennsylvania, on March 12, 1848. She was united in marriage to Luke Becket October 26, 1867. To this union was born five sons, Miles, David E., Clarence, Jesse and Will. Miles Becket now residing in Canada. Clarence at Dickens, the remainder of the family in Spencer. Beside the sons who remain to mourn her death are her sisters, Mrs. Angie Noland of Boone, and Mrs. Sarah E. Kearby of Fort Dodge.

Mrs. Becket came with her husband and family to Spencer twenty-three years ago where she has made her home continuously until her death. She came from a family of nine children, eight girls and one boy. This brother lost his life in the Civil War.

Both of Mrs. Becket's sisters, Mrs. Noland and Mrs. Kearby were here for the funeral, as were six of her nephews from out of the city. They were J.E. Tarr, Miles Peoples, Will Peoples and A.L. Rhodes all of Woodward, Iowa, W.M. Tarr of Denver, Colorado, L.C. Noland of Boone, Iowa, and also Mrs. Geo. Kearby of Fort Dodge.

Mrs. Becket has been a resident of this county for many years and has a large circle of friends in this community and will be greatly missed in her home.
