February 25, 2007Dorothy E. Andersen, 85 of Fargo, ND, died Sunday, February 25, 2007, at SCCI Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Dorothy E. Mundy was born April 13, 1921, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, to Myrtle and Jack Mundy. They moved to Fargo, North Dakota, while she was young. She attended Fargo schools and worked various jobs.
She married Edwin Stensrud in 1940. They lived in East Los Angeles, California. She worked at defense plants and cafes during WWII.
She married Virgil R. Andersen in a double wedding with her sister, Mildred, and husband, William Scanlon, on August 18, 1946, in Las Vegas.
They returned back to Fargo in 1948. Dorothy worked as a fry cook at Ralph’s and Polly’s Lunch and various bar and café jobs. She worked at the Teamsters Bar and Lounge, retiring in 1982.
Dorothy loved to fish, while spending time at their lake cabin in Minnesota, and playing card games with family and friends.
She had a great talent for crafts and crocheting, receiving many blue ribbons at the Red River Valley Fair and Perham Country Fair.
She always cheered on the Minnesota Twins. Dorothy loved to cook for her family. Many of her favorites were potato salad, pudding-in-a-cloud, handmade buns and her Mexican dinners.
Dorothy was loved and is survived by her husband, Virgil, Fargo, ND; four sons, Edward Stensrud, Los Angeles, CA; James R. Andersen, West Fargo, ND; Robert B. (Jean) Andersen, Fargo, ND; Randall L. (Marcy) Andersen, Fargo, ND.
She was also loved and survived by 12 treasured grandchildren, Derek, Jordan, Stephanie, Sadie, Melissa, Tyler, Kyle and Ryan Andersen, Fargo, ND; Edward, Mike, Renee and Carol Stensrud, Los Angeles, CA; nine great-grandchildren, Richard, Brianna, Robert, Mike, Crystal, Carman, Monique, Devin and Andrew, all of Los Angeles; a niece, Geroldine Mundy, Fargo, ND; and a nephew, Dennis (Sally) Scanlon, LaPunte, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
Funeral Service: Friday, March 2, 2007, at 2:00PM, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
Burial: Fairview Cemetery of Meadow Township, rural Langdon, Iowa, at a later date.
