February 22, 2013Jack A. Hamrick, age 80, of West Des Moines, Iowa and formerly of Webb, Iowa died February 22, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in West Des Moines.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Webb.
Private family burial will be held in the Dickens Cemetery in Dickens, Iowa.
The Sliefert-Smith Funeral Home in Webb is in charge of the arrangements.
Jack Arnold Hamrick was born April 19, 1932 in Gillett Grove, Iowa, the son of Howard and Ruth (Warwick) Hamrick. He lived his youth in the Gillett Grove area before moving west of Webb in 1945.
In 1949, Jack graduated from Cornell High School.
On May 4, 1952, Jack was united in marriage to Marlene Jones in Dickens, Iowa. Together, they made their home in Webb and were blessed with four children: Kathy, Tom, Peg, and Sue.
Jack was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Webb.
Jack and his brother, Arden, owned Hamrick Construction and also farmed together. In his younger years, he played town team baseball, softball, and horseshoes. Jack was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinals Fan. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating and family gatherings at Lost Island Lake and Lake Okoboji. Jack treasured spending time with his family, and thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s activities.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marlene Hamrick of West Des Moines, Iowa; children: Kathy (Bob) Albin of West Des Moines, Iowa; Tom (Kari) Hamrick of Madison, Wisconsin; Peg (Roger) Moler of Conrad, Iowa; Sue (Andy) Rodawig of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; grandchildren: Katie and Jill Albin; Emily Hamrick; Kate (Erik) Risa; Nick (Kimber) Moler; Lauren (Chris) Crawford; Elizabeth Wagner; Chase and Paige Rodawig; sister-in-law, Shirley Hamrick of Webb, Iowa; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ruth Hamrick; brother, Arden Hamrick; and parents-in-law, Eldon “Chub” and Hazel Jones.
Interment in Dickens cemetery
