William A. Culver, age 55 years, a pioneer resident of Dickens, Iowa, died last Wednesday morning at eight o'clock, February 25, 1931, at his home in Rock Valley, Iowa. He had been ill with rheumatism several weeks previous to his death which was caused from heart trouble.

Funeral rites were held Thursday afternoon from the church at Rock Valley, Iowa, and at two-thirty o'clock Friday from the Methodist church in Dickens, Iowa. Rev. W.O. Tompkins of Spencer had charge of the services and interment was made in the Dickens cemetery.

William Culver was born in the state of Wisconsin June 2, 1875. He lived there until he was six years of age and at that time came to Clay county with his parents, brothers and sisters where they located at Dickens, Iowa, and where he spent the greater part of his life.

At Dickens in 1899, he was united in marriage to Ethel P. Davis, who passed away Feb. 11, 1915. Fourteen years ago Mr. Culver was united in marriage to Sena Hansen of Sanborn, Iowa. After their marriage they continued living in Sanborn until five years ago this spring when they moved to Rock Valley, Iowa, where they had since made their home. Mr. Culver was engaged in working on the county roads.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sena Culver of Rock Valley, five daughters, Mrs. Bessie Blaine of Olney, Illinois, Mrs. Nena Ryker of Dickens, Miss Betty Mae and Miss June Culver of Rock Valley, Miss Edith Mae Culver of Rock Valley of LeMars, three [sic] sons, Arthur Culver of Rock Valley, Ralph Culver of Dickens; his mother, Mrs. George Culver, a sister, Mrs. Grace Storey and two brothers, Dewey and Harvey Culver, all of Dickens, another brother, Leonard Culver of Decorah, Iowa, and sister, Mrs. D. Halverson of Atwater, Minnesota. A son, Martin Culver, preceded him in death at the age of eight years.
