Helen Mary Boese, the daughter of John and Rose (Pfeifer) Trainer, was born July 31, 1916, in Melvin, Iowa. Helen moved from the family farm during her high school years to attend school in Sibley, IA. While there, she lived and worked for a local family. After high school, Helen attended a small business college where she earned a secretarial degree. Her first job was at the Osceola County Court House during the depression. In 1930, Helen moved to the Webb community and was hired as secretary to the president of Citizens State Bank.
Helen married Burdette W. "Buzz" Boese on January 18, 1940. Following their marriage, Burdette enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX. When Burdette was ordered overseas, Helen returned to Webb where she resumed employment at the bank. A few years later, she made a career move to the local schools and faithfully served three superintendents in both the Webb and South Clay school systems. After retiring in 1967, Helen enjoyed golf (including a Hole-In-One!!), bridge, wintering in Texas, time with friends, traveling, cooking, Catholic Daughters, and family reunions. Since July 2008, Helen was an active resident at Riverview Assisted Living at St. Luke's in Spencer, IA. She enjoyed making new friends and was especially proud to be a member of the traveling bell choir and dance group.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, William Boese and his wife, Ramona of Milford, IA; her daughter, Marilyn Douglas and her husband, Gregory of Simsbury, CT; her grandchildren: Sarah Crowder and her husband, Joshua of Leonardtown, MD and Mark Douglas and his wife, Mary Kate of Centennial, CO; her great-grandchildren: Hanah and Jakob Crowder and Ty Barton Douglas; her beloved nieces and nephews: Robert, Richard, Gary and Patrick Thomas, Ron Roland, Becky Roland and Sherry (Roland) Anderson; she will be remembered by a host of relatives and friends from coast to coast.
