William Deegan, 65 years of age, pioneer resident of Peterson, died Sunday evening, November 8, 1931, at 9:20 at the St. Joseph hospital in Sioux City. Mr. Deegan was admitted to the hospital last week where he underwent an operation for myocarditis Thursday. he seemed to be recovering from the operation but his condition suddenly weakened and death came Sunday evening.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Catholic church in Royal. Burial was made in Peterson.

William Deegan was born November 18, 1865, at Darlington, Wisconsin. In 1871 he came to Iowa with his parents and they made their home near Peterson, where Mr. Deegan lived for about sixty years. His first home was of sod. During those pioneer days, he lived the hardships and knew the trials of those first settlers.

He was united in marriage February 6, 1893, to Julia Agnes Murphy at Storm Lake, and to this union were born four children, two of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Deegan passed away April 29, 1930.

Since the death of his wife, he has made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Huss, five and a half miles south of Everly. At the time of his death he was 65 years, 11 months and 20 days of age.

He is survived by a son, Roy Deegan, of Peterson, a daughter, Mrs. Edward Huss of Royal, two brothers, J.B. Deegan of Peterson and Albert Deegan of California, a sister, Mrs. Fred O'Brien of Sioux City and six grandchildren.
