Mrs. John T. Painter, a resident of Spencer for many years, died Sunday morning, May 24, 1931, at her winter home in Daytona Beach, Florida, where she and her husband have been spending the winter months for the past number of years. Mrs. Painter was 77 years of age at the time of her death which followed a lingering illness.
Mr. Painter is accompanying the body to Spencer and funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock at the Cobb Funeral Chapel and at the First Congregational church at three o'clock, with Rev. B.J. Trickey, pastor of the church, in charge. Interment will be made in the Riverside cemetery.
Lucy Arms, daughter of Justius and Philena Arms, was born in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, October 26, 1853, and was united in marriage to John T. Painter at Prairie du Chien, February 3, 1879. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Painter moved to a farm near Greenville where they lived for a number of years. They then moved to Spencer and built a home at 210 West Fifth street where they lived until the past few years. Mrs. Painter was a member of the Congregational church of Spencer. They have been spending the winter months in California and Florida returning to Spencer for the summer months, but last summer Mrs. Painter's health was such that they could not leave Daytona Beach.
An only child, Mrs. Hazel Coffin, preceded Mrs. Painter in death several years ago. Mrs. Painter is survived by her husband, a sister, Mrs. Perkins, who is a missionary in Africa, a brother, Albert A. Arms of Withee, Wisconsin, two grandchildren, Lucille and Burton Coffin of Indiana, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Elizabeth Arms of Spencer.
