Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock from the Cobb-Phelps funeral chapel for James Whitehill, 82, who passed away Saturday at the local hospital where he had been a patient for several weeks. Death was attributed to infirmities of old age.

Rev. Benjamin J. Trickey, pastor of the First Congretational church, had charge of the last rites. Six Spencer and Webb friends assisted the body to its resting place beside his wife at the Garfield cemetery near Webb. She died in 1907.

The only relatives of the deceased man is a sister living in Scotland.

Mr. Whitehill, who was born in Scotland in 1851, had lived in Clay county for over 40 years. During his early residence here he was located in Garfield township. The last years of his life were spent at the county farm where he paid for his own keeping.

He was employed as night watchman during the mayorship of Harry Chamberlain, served the city as street cleaner, and was also employed as flagman at the Milwaukee tracks.
