Henry Tweet, Sr., of Spencer, age 69 years, 2 months and 15 days, passed away Monday afternoon, July 27, 1931, at his home, 420 East Seventh street. Death followed a stroke which he suffered Wednesday, July 22.
Funeral services were held at one o'clock Thursday afternoon, July 30, at the Cobb Funeral Home in Spencer, with Rev. K. Nyegaard, pastor of the Bethany Lutheran church, in charge. At two-thirty o'clock services were conducted at the Lost Island Norwegian Lutheran church by Rev. Mandsager of Graettinger. Interment was made in the family lot at the Lost Island cemetery.
Henry Tweet was born May 12, 1862, at Stavanger, Norway, and came to America in 1887. He resided at Morris, Illinois, until 1913, when he and his family moved to a farm in Lake township, Clay county, Iowa.
On March 5, 1895, he was united in marriage to Anna Holland of Park River, North Dakota. Five children were born to this union. Two children preceded him in death, a daughter, who died in infancy, and a son Ernest, who died at the age of 21 years.
In February 1929, Mr. Tweet suffered from a stroke and due to ill health, he retired from the farm in Lake township and moved to Spencer in the spring of that year. He took a great interest in local township affairs and served for more than twelve years as township trustee, and was a member for several years of the school board of the Lake township consolidated school. He was a member of the Lost Island Lutheran church. He belonged to the Odd Fellow and Masonic lodges.
Mr. Tweet was a kind and loving husband and father and a considerate neighbor to a host of friends.
He is survived by his wife and three children, Henry Tweet Jr., Agnes, now Mrs. Nathan Gould and Alma, all residents of Clay county, and four grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister, who reside in Norway, mourn his death.
