Philip Hennaman was born on November 15th, 1856, at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and died Saturday evening, February 14th, 1920, at the age of 63 years 2 months and 29 days.
Mr. Hennaman lived with his parents until he was eighteen years of age. In March, 1879, he came west and located at Monmouth, Illinois, where he was employed in a machine shop for two years. He then came to Odebolt, Iowa, and became foreman on the Cook ranch, where he remained for three years.
On June 5th, 1883, he was united in marriage to Miss Phoebe Waggoner. The next year they moved to Sac county and he began farming for himself. There they lived for fifteen years, and on March 1st, 1899, they moved to Clay county.
After his health failed him he gave up the management of the farm to his sons and came to Fostoria to live. Through years of physical suffering he did not complain. His power of endurance and his desire to live for his family compelled the admiration of all who knew him.
A few months ago he accepted Christ as his Saviour and asked for Christian baptism. He had perfect peace in his heart and since that time lived with the assurance that God accepted him and all was well.
Eleven children blessed the home, nine boys and two girls, all of whom are living and were present at the funeral, and are Mrs. J.E. Mitts of Magnet, Nebraska, Cyrus of Estherville, Elmer and Curtis of Armstrong, Charley, Arthur, Foster, Daniel, George, Verla and Leonard of Fostoria, were with him when the final summons came. There are four grandchildren. Besides the family he leaves to mourn his loss, three sisters, Mrs. Laura Toll of Estherville, Mrs. David Shatto and Mrs. Chas. Miller of Spencer, and a brother, Joe Hennaman of Estherville.
The funeral services were conducted by the pastor Rev. Hammerle on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the M.E. church. A choir composed of Miss Gertie Eggers and Mrs. Verne Clark and R.W. Schwarck and George Miller, with Mrs. Hammerle as pianist, furnished music. Six of the sons acted as pall bearers. The relatives have the sympathy of all in their sorrow.
