Hannah Rose, Clay County Pioneer, Dies
Former Resident Is Taken by Death at Des Moines
Mrs. Hannah L. Rose, 89, one of the very early pioneers of Clay county, died Friday afternoon at her home in Des Moines from the effects of a stroke suffered Sunday.
The body was returned to Spencer for funeral services held at Cobb's Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment was at Riverside cemetery.
Born in Pennsylvania Oct. 3, 1847, Mrs. Rose came west with her husband, William Ed Rose, shortly after their marriage, and homesteaded on a farm six miles west of Spencer. After living on the farm for a period of years, they moved to Spencer where they made their home.
Mr. Rose died eight years ago. Then Mrs. Rose went to Fort Dodge where she resided until five years ago, when she went to Des Moines.
Mr. and Mrs. Rose celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary in Spencer 10 years ago.
Surviving are one son, Will Rose, who makes his home with Mr. and Mrs. Francis Rose near Spencer; three grandchildren, Francis Rose of Spencer, Edna Bovey of Mt. Morris, Ill., and Bertha Keough of Des Moines; and two great-grandchildren, Donald Edward Rose and Arlene Rose Bovey. A daughter, Mrs. Frank Babcock, died in 1935.
