Ricka E. Larsen was born in Spencer, Dec. 2, 1883, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Larsen of this city. Her father died a few years ago in Spencer.

Ricka was graduated from the Spencer high schools in the class of 1903. She was a good scholar and stood well in the class. She then followed teaching for a short time, but music was a natural gift with her and she went to Des Moines for four years and fitted herself in her chosen profession. She was the organist of the Congregational church in this city for two years.

At about seventeen years of age Ricka was converted and united with the Baptist church. Her Christian life was one of activity and usefulness.

On June 15, 1910, Ricka was united in marriage to Alfred E. Nelson of Topeka, Kansas, and the following July went to Taft, Texas, where the husband had a responsible position on the large ranch belonging to Chas. P. Taft. Here she was happy with her husband and mother who had gone to Texas to live with them. About Feb. 1 she was taken quite sick, and it was necessary to perform an operation from which she did not rally. She was perfectly resigned, and before going to the operating table sang "God Be With You Till We Meet Again," "Come Unto Me All Ye That Labor," "There at the Cross Where the Savior Died," and repeated the 23rd Psalm. Her last words were "I see Jesus."

The body was brought here for burial, the services being held in the Congregational church and conducted by Rev. E.E. Evans of Hampton, former pastor of the Baptist church of this city. The services at the cemetery were in charge of the Rebekah lodge of which the deceased was an active member. The interment was in Riverside cemetery.
