Francis John Drake passed away at his home three miles south of Dickens Thursday morning, January 13, 1927, after an illness of four months. At the time of his death he was seventy-eight years, four months and seventeen days of age.

Francis John Drake was born at Racine, Wisconsin, August 26, 1848. When he was a young boy he moved with his parents to Northfield, Minnesota, where he grew to manhood. In 1871 he came to Clay county, and settled on the farm south of Dickens, where he died, having lived there for nearly fifty-six years with the exception of a few years spent in Arkansas. On January 16, 1878, he was married to Miss Marcella Brown, and to this union were born three children. Mr. Drake was a man who was honored and respected by all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished by his surviving relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the home three miles south of Dickens on Saturday, January 15, at one o'clock. Rev. W.O. Tomkins of Spencer had charge of the services. The body was laid to rest in the Dickens cemetery.

Besides his wife, Mr. Drake leaves to mourn his passing three children, Mrs. Etta Clifford of Nora Springs, Mrs. Margaret Grover of St. Paul, and John, who lives at home; also one brother, Charles of Leroy, Kansas, and two grandchildren, Harriet and Dale Grover of St. Paul.
