CHARLES D. ZAHRT OF NEAR ROSSIE DIES ON WAY TO SPENCER FOLLOWING ACCIDENT
WHEEL CAME OFF ROADSTER
Fred Zahrt and Joe Dyer, Other Occupants of Car, Escaped But Were Considerably Bruised Up
Charles D. Zahrt, 20 years old, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Zahrt, living two miles north of Rossie, died Friday night while being brought to Spencer after having his neck broken in an automobile accident which occurred shortly after seven o'clock. Charles Zahrt was riding in the car in company with his brother, Fred Zahrt, age 17, and Joe Dyer, brother of W.M. Dyer of Rossie. The accident happened about a quarter of a mile south of Greenville on the Air Line. The boys were driving the Ford roadster at a good rate of speed when one of the wheels broke, throwing the boys out. The car turned over, but the car itself was uninjured. Zahrt was first taken to Greenville but according to reports, the doctor could not be located and so he was started for Spencer, but died on the way. Joe [sic] Zahrt was brought to the Spencer hospital. He was considerably bruised but not seriously so. Dyer was taken to Sioux Rapids.
Charles Davis Zahrt was born March 10, 1898, in Benton county, Iowa. He is survived by his parents, two sisters and two brothers, being Mrs. L.M. Upward of Rossie, and Katie, Fred and Harley at home.
Funeral services were held from the Rossie church at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Bump of Royal. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
